Create your first (or next!) e-book to generate passive income online
E-books are digital products that teach someone more about a certain topic or guide them through a particular process.
I have personally made $500,000 from one e-book and generated over seven figures in my business from all the ones I’ve created!
And I’m not the only one! E-books have been successfully selling online since 2007!
They’re one of the best passive income ideas because once you create it, you can deliver it an unlimited amount of time!
No more trading time for money by selling group coaching sessions or 1-on-1 calls.
And the best part? You can create this popular digital product in under 24 hours!!

Creating Your E-Book
Now before you get too excited, keep in mind… my first e-book completely flopped!
Why? Because I created it based on what I thought my ideal client wanted not what they actually wanted!
Once I understood the strategy of creating an effective e-book and how to sell them, not only was able to generate 7 figures in my online business, but I was also able to sell the IP for one of my most popular e-books to another educator!
In this post, I’m going to share with you my three-part framework on how to come up with your e-book idea, create it in 24 hours, and sell it so that you can start creating passive income in your online business!
Let’s go!
1. How To Choose a Good Idea.
I don’t want your first e-book to be a flop! So don’t do what I did!!
Don’t create an e-book based on what you think your ideal clients want.
How do you know what your ideal client wants? Ask them! How?
- Build your audience. Use a freebie to build an email list. Once you have 100 to 200 subscribers, send them a Google survey to ask them what is the number one struggle that they’re facing right now. This is super important! You don’t want to know just any problem they have, you want to know their number one problem. This is going to make your digital product easier to sell because your ideal clients are going to have urgency to solve that problem.
- Host focus groups or one-on-one market research calls. Talk to your ideal client directly to figure out what their number one challenge is! Make sure to explain what’s in it for them by joining you on a call. I’ve done focus group pizza parties and sent people Starbucks gift cards to thank them for their time.
2. Create Your E-book in Less Than 24 Hours.
Now the first time you create an e-book it may take you a little bit longer. But it won’t always take that long. My most recent one, I created in less than 12 hours!
If it takes you longer than 24 hours to create yours you might be overthinking it, being a perfectionist, or procrastinating.
The best thing to do to make your e-book successful is to ship it (sell it!), get feedback, and reiterate it to make improvements.
Here’s a quick checklist on how to create your e-book!
Outline the steps to take your client from where they are now to where they want to be (i.e. their problem solved!)
Bullet out the step-by-step process that will help your clients solve their problem.
The less steps the better!
You may think for your e-book to be valuable that it needs to be longer, have more steps, or provide for content.
The truth is the quicker you can help someone solve their problem the more valuable your e-book will be to them!
Create a title.
Creating a title for your e-book is one of the most fun parts!
Brainstorm a couple titles on your own and then feed them into an AI tool like ChatGPT .
Ask ChatGPT to brainstorm other titles for your e-book, and pick your favorite.
A couple pro tips on creating a title for your e-book:
- The shorter the better. Concise titles can be more powerful and immediately recognizable to your ideal client.
- Make your title results based. Your title should immediately give your ideal client a sense of how you are going to help them. For example my title : Model Call” was not a great name. No one knew what that was! Instead I should’ve chosen something like “Get More Photography Clients”.
Draft your e-book.
Now you might think to create your e-book in under 24 hours that you should have ChatGPT write it for you.
I actually prefer to write mine on my own using the bullets I created.
Once I created a first draft, then I feed it into an AI tool.
AI will help polish it up so that it’s my words but with a tone that will resonate with my ideal audience. Like I could ask chat GP to write my e-book in the tone of a millennial, or a favorite influencer of my ideal client.
Design it!
Finally, use a design tool like Canva to create your e-book. Simply copy and paste your copy into a Canva ebook template design, download it as a PDF, and upload to Google Drive.
Don’t get stuck on making it too fancy.
Remember you can always update it later. And what’s important is that the content inside will help your ideal clients solve their number one problem.

3. Selling Your E-Book.
In order to sell your e-book you’re going to create a funnel using an all-in-one marketing system like Systeme.io.
Inside Systeme.io, you can create a simple checkout page, process your buyer’s payment, and trigger a delivery email that links them to the shareable Google Drive link where your ebook is hosted. The whole process can be automated so that once someone lands on your checkout page Systeme.io does the rest. (Can we say ‘yay!’ to say passive income?)
Once your checkout link is ready it’s time to decide how to sell your e-book!
There’s a ton of information and influencers online that will teach you how to sell your e-book through Amazon or Etsy.
In my experience, the 6 and 7-figure business owners sell their ebooks on their own platform. They build their own email list just like I have.
This is the best way to make sure that you own your list, avoid selling fees, and can completely automate the process inside of an all-in-one tool like Systeme.io.
What’s the best way to grow your own platform?
I have tried just about every traffic source out there and by far the most effective has been YouTube (Check out my step-by-step 4 week plan on launching a YouTube channel).
I consistently publish content on YouTube and build my email list by mentioning freebies in my video recording and in the description of my video.
Once people are on your list, you can build a relationship and the know, like, trust factor.
For instance, I have a welcome series that nurtures my audience, provides them with a ton of value, and then invites them to buy.
I also promote my e-books on all of my social profiles and on my website. Along with my other digital products!
